Book Club: Love Like a Girl

"“We don’t even like each other.”

“Says you,” Ethan murmured right before he lowered his lips to hers.

She had always imagined Ethan’s kisses would be hard and demanding, like his body. Or, the way he was in court. Nope. Surprised, yet again. The man took his time. He nibbled his way around her mouth with a gentleness and a finesse which was truly mind blowing. He had her trembling in no time. By the time he finally dipped his tongue inside her mouth and stroked the tip intimately over her own tongue, he had her fingers clinging to the Henley he still wore, had her mind melted into mush."

Oh, mama, things are getting spicy!

This story caught me on the first page and didn't let me go. It's a small town, enemies to lovers romance that is loaded down with animals all over the place. Also, it's spicy. From the dialogue to the... err, non-verbal communicating, Heather and Ethan make these pages steam.

The story starts with Heather rescuing an abused puppy. Heather runs a local animal rescue, and Ethan's family has bought the land across the street. They plan to build a luxury resort, and Ethan's dad doesn't think Heather's animal rescue is going to add to the upper-class vibe their build is going for. If they can put Heather out of business, that is exactly what they are going to do.

Except that Ethan and Heather have met before, in University. She thinks he's hot...and a bit of an ass. He's had a thing for her every since those college days. Now, he's cooking for her, and he's helping out at her shelter. He's rocking her opinion of him by day, and even though he knows he shouldn't considering his dad's intentions, he's spending his evenings rocking her world.

And wow, is Heather's world rocking. He's got her rethinking everything she thought she knew of him. Just when she's started to accept that she misjudged the man and that she likes him -- a lot -- her whole world explodes. And Heather knows just who to blame.

There is a lot of tension in this story, a fast-moving plot, smokin' hot sex scenes, and an adorable puppy. More than that though, this is a true small-town romance where the characters all know each other and look out for one another. The vibe in this story is just warm and caring and real. On a small level, the story examines the development of wild natural spaces.

It's also a bit of a David versus Goliath story between the struggling non-profit and the mega-bucks resort. What makes David win this battle isn't a stone, it's an entire town, and how the people all come together to support Heather and her wounded animals.

I really loved this story. I read it in only a few days and I read it in paperback instead of e-book. I recommend this book for any romance enthusiast who loves animals and men with abs who are close to their family and can cook.
